Rubik’s cube colours schemes

Above shows the opened up shape of a Rubik’s Cube. This is what is known as the western color scheme. It ‘s with the Japanese color scheme. The western color scheme is one of the most commonly used color schemes for the Rubik’s Cube.

A common term used for the western color scheme is referred to as ‘’BOY’’ which is short for blue orange and yellow. A mirrored version of this color scheme exists.

Each center piece of a Rubik’s Cube has one colored sticker on its external side. The color of this center piece determines the color of each cube face. The color are normally white, yellow, green, blue, orange and red.In some cases a brownish color replaces the red color.

The more recently produced Rubik’s Cubes consist of the normal six colors, that I’ve already mentioned. Erno Rubik who originally invented the Rubik’s Cube ,created the Rubik’s Cube with these six colors.

Different color schemes

Japan and America have a Rubik’s Cube with colors white opposite blue, red opposite orange and green opposite yellow. This coloring has a name ‘’plus yellow’’. There is a logical reason for this name.

This logic is that the opposite side of the colors white, red, or blue is created by yellow to that color.
The 12 edge pieces on a Rubik’s Cube all have 2 different colored stickers.
The Rubik’s Cube consists of eight corner pieces.

These pieces have three different colored stickers. If an edge or corner piece is in the correct position, it means that it is in the right place on the Cube relative to its center. At the same time it doesn’t matter how it is twisted in this position.

A correctly orientated corner or edge piece is one which, the sticker of a certain color, is adjacent to the sticker of the center piece of the same color.

Sometimes a corner or an edge piece will be specified by their colors (e.g white – green edge). They sometimes are also specified by their placement (e.g UR edge) which means the edge in the upper and right layer.

Conclusion
I was always of the assumption that the colors of the Rubik’s Cube were the same across all cultures. No matter what color the stickers are the general principle of solving the Rubik’s Cube remains the same. The western Rubik’s Cube color scheme is far more known than any other across the World.
