World records of the cube –
The world top speed cubers blow us all away. They often produce cube soles below 10 seconds. Felix Zemdegs is probably the most popular speed cuber the World’s ever seen. The World’s best speed cubers solve the cube using the Fridrich Method.
This method usually takes a person about 60 moves to solve the Rubik’s Cube. Sometimes it can take a lot less moves to solve the cube by using this method. On rare occasions speed cubers have solved the cube in as low as about 30 moves using the Fridrich Method.
When this occurs their times will be about half of their usual solving time.
If you then know that a Worlds top ten speed cuber solves the cube in about 9 seconds from a 60 move solve, what then for a 30 move solve.
Then the solving time will obviously be about half of the 60 move solving time. The 30 move solve would then be about 4.5 seconds. This is why and how the Rubik’s Cube fastest top 20 solving times range between 4.22 and 5.5 seconds.
Speed cubers can also have a bit of luck by getting low move count solves. In speed cubing competitions no one has ever solved a cube in as low as 22 moves. I estimate that 28 moves is the lowest move count solve at any competition. The World’s top speed cubers have amazing finger dexterity.
Fantastic new speed cubers are continually emerging. Felix Zemdegs recently broke the speed cubing World record at the age of 2 2 . Although Zemdegs has an awesome record of breaking speed cubing World records, I am still surprised he did this at that age.
I state this because no person over the age of 17 had ever broken the speed cubing World record. At least 10 competitors average 3 solves under 10 seconds at World championships today.
Today its possible for a speed cuber to average 3 solves of 9.99 seconds and still not make the World championships final. How disheartening this must be for some of the World’s fastest speed cubers. Today you can see how high the World’s speed cubing standard is.
Speed cubing World records create a lot of excitement. Being the fastest person on earth to solve a Rubik’s Cube is something a lot of speed cuber’s dream about moreover only very few of them ever achieve it. I remember about 1981 before I bought my first Rubik’s Cube.

At that time I saw Dan Brown on TV solve a Rubik’s Cube in 30 seconds. There was no recorded faster time, so it was assumed to be the World record.
In addition the first World record broken in a competition took place at the 1982 Rubik’s Cube World championships. This championships was held in Hungary, Budapest also this World record was set by Minn Thai in a time of 22.95 seconds.

There have been numerous World championships since then, along with smaller championships. The World record for solving the Cube has been broken about 40 times since 1982. Moreover the record today stands at an astonishing 4.39 seconds.

Top Speed-Cubing Personalities
Since the invention of the Rubik’s cube certain individuals have made a big impact solving the Rubik’s cube. These people will live long in people’s memories.Although Minn Thai may not have been one of the fastest ever Speed-Cubers, the fact that he won the first ever Rubik’s Cube World Championships gives him a place in history.

Furthermore he also broke the world record at this 1982 Rubik’s Cube World Championships. However, I have no knowledge of any Rubik’s cube related events since that he’s been a part of.
Tyson Mao
Tyson Mao was a world class Speed-Cuber in 2005. He is mostly remembered for solving the Rubik’s cube blindfolded on CNN TV in front of millions of viewers. He competed in the 2005 Rubik’s Cube World Championships.
In 2005 he was averaging 15 second solves of the Rubik’s cube which was world class standard at that time. In 2006 he broke the blindfolded world record for solving the Rubik’s cube. Tyson Mao’s fame increased even further by becoming the co founder and a current board member of the World Cube Association.
Toby Mao

Although Toby Mao didn’t achieve anything compared to other top Speed-Cubers to be that memorable he did break the world record. He achieved this in 2006 in a time of 10.48 seconds. He is easily remembered because he is Tyson Mao’s brother.
Thiabald Jacquinot

Thiabald Jacquinot has certainly made his place in history by being the first person to solve the rubikas cube under 10 seconds. He clocked 9.86 seconds at the Spanish Open 2007 to achieve this.

Felix Zemdegs is by far the most memorable figure in the history of the Speed-Cubing world. He has set untold records. Firstly Felix Zemdegs is the youngest person to break the world record for solving the Rubik’s cube.
In the year 2010 at the age of 14 Felix set a world record by solving the Rubik’s cube in 6.77 seconds. He has gone on to break his own world record five times. He has held the world record for the fastest Rubik’s cube solve six times,which is more times than anyone in history.

He has also won the most Speed-Cubing competitions than anyone else. He has set world records for the fastest solves for the 3×3,4×4,and 5×5 Rubik’s cube solves. Further to this he has also set a world record for the 7×7 average Rubik’s cube solves and set a world record for the Rubik’s cube one handed solve.
He has the fastest Rubik’s Cube World Championship winning time which he achieved in the 2013 World Championships. He won this World Championships in 8.18 seconds.

Felix Zemdegs held the previous world record which stood at 5.66 seconds I really believed Zemdegs’s world record would probably never be beaten.

Seung Beom Cho produced a world’s fastest solve of the 3×3 cube in an amazing time of 4.59 seconds. This world record was set at the Chicago Ghosts 2017 which was held on the 28th October 2017 in the United States at the Odeum Expo Center venue.

Patrick Ponce produced his fastest solve of the 3 x 3 x 3 cube in a time of 4.69 seconds. This fast solve was set at the Ralley In The Valley 2017 which was held on the 2nd September 2017 in the United States at the Lord Fair fax Community College venue.
Felix Zemdegs produced his fastest solve of the 3 x 3 x 3 cube to clock a time of 4.73 seconds. This great solve was set at the Pops Open 2016 which was held on 11th December 2016 in Australia at the Parks Orchard Primary School venue.

Matts Valk produced his fastest ever solve of the 3 x 3 cube in a time of 4.74 seconds. This solve was set at the Jawa Timur Open 2016 which was held on November 5th – 6th 2016 in Indonesia at the STIEKEN( Sekolah Tinggi IImu Ekonomi Kesuma Negara) venue.
Speed cubing records in the USA
Drew Brads produced his fastest ever solve of the 3 x 3 x 3 cube to clock a time of 4.76 seconds. This solve was set at the Bluegrass Spring 2017 which was held on 4th March 2017 in the United States at the Athens – Chilesburg Elementary School venue.
Max Park produced his fastest solve of the 3 x 3 x 3 cube to produce a time of 4.78 seconds. This fast solve was set at the Skillcon 2017 which was held on 16th -17th December 2017 in the United States at the Rio Hotel and Casino venue.

Blake Thomson produced his fastest solve of his career of the 3 x 3 x 3 cube to clock a time of 4.86 seconds. This fast solve was set at the Queen City 2017 which was held on 3rd June 2017 in the United States at Scott High School venue.
Antonie Paterakis produced the fastest solve of his career to clock a time of 4.89 seconds. This solve was set at The Hague Open 2017 which was held on 25th March 2017 in the Netherlands at Stichting Don Bosco Rijswijk venue.

Lucas Etter produced his fastest ever solve of the 3 x 3 x 3 cube with a nice solve of 4.90 seconds. This solve was set at the River Hill Fall 2015 which was held on 21st November 2015 in the United States at River Hill High School venue.
Chinese Rubik’s Cube championship 2017
Seung Hyuk Nahm produced his fastest ever solve of the 3 x 3 x 3 cube with a solve of 4.90 seconds. This solve was set at the China Championship 2017 which was held on 28th – 30th July 2017 in China at Xi’an Eurasia University venue.

Speed solving times have improved immensely over the last 2 decades. Rubik’s Cube can be specially made to fit a persons hands as comfortable as possible. Moreover the application of lubricants on cubes also helps to produce faster solves. You can also create your own hand made cubes.
